Social Media Integration

When working as a website administrator, there are certain features that need to be tested in order to confirm they work. One such feature is social media integration, and this post is that test.

Now, I could instigate the test, then delete the posts to the website, Facebook, Twitter, etc. But what fun would that be?

Instead, let’s talk about what this type of integration gives us. On the surface, being able to cross post between these sites isn’t all that hard for one or two posts. Should the new website lack sufficient activity, spending our time working on this integration might seem foolish. After all, these are public posts – people will quickly see how dedicated we are to using these tools. If new items are weeks or months apart, will it really matter how well such a message is shared?

So the salient point is this: Content in a vacuum is wasted effort, and shouting in the market place of ideas with vapid, or droll content gets quickly ignored. We need to find a balance where the content is valuable to those we need to reach, and that content gets to them in a timely fashion.

What kind of content is going to be valuable for the readers of this site and our social media accounts? There are the obvious posts regarding upcoming events, such as the Buchanan County Democrats Central Committee meetings. There a notifications of upcoming IDP activities, especially ones that need volunteers.

However, the one type of content that I believe is most valuable are posts that are calls to power. Politics and policies need a ground-swell of voters. The only way you turn your community into a voting block is to give them something of meaning to vote for. Passion for productive change comes when we all agree that there is a wrong that needs righting, the we have the power to pursue that change, and that we are not alone in our persistence.

So, if you are a Buchanan County Democrat, and have a zeal for a particular project, policy, or politician – we are seeking your sincerity, earnestness, and fire. We want you at our events, our meetings, and on our website. Let us make a space for you, your neighbor, your family … our community.
